Wingate - Myrtle Johnson, 84, died at 6 a.m. Monday in her home in Wingate. Mrs. Johnson, a Fountain county native, had lived in Wingate proper and the nearby area since 1903. She was the widow of J. Walter Johnson, who was killed in a 1935 railroad mishap. The deceased was a member of the Wingate christian church and Wingate Chapter 336, Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Johnson was born on May 20, 1883, the daughter of Albert and Jane Brown Haxton. Her marriage was solemnized on Christmas Eve, 1903. Surviving are a son, Bernard of Chicago; four daughters, Margaret Meharry of Rt 1, New Richmond, Imogene Gardner of Crawfordsville, twins, Mary Kelly of Indianapolis and Martha Miller of Waynetown; a niece, Mrs. B.M. Gardner of Ft. Collins, Colo; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Walter. Services are pending at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown.

Wingate - The Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Johnson, who died here early Monday are announced for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Note: The Montgomery Vital statistics page has June 12 for her funeral notice and June 8th for her death. The newspaper article has the date printed on it as May 13, 1968. I wasn't sure what to put for dates. Something seems wrong!

Wingate - The funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Johnson was held at the Servies Thompson Funeral Home in Waynetown. The minister was Rev. Scott Comrie, pastor of Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ. Favorite hymns were played by Mrs. James Grenard, organist. The pall bearers, who also assisted with the flowers, were Judd Meharry, Pete Miller, John Kelly, Hugh Kelly and Net Kelly, grandsons, and Clarence Rhodes. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wingate

Wingate - Mrs. Myrtle Johnson, who would have been 85 on May 20, was found dead in bed in her home here at 9 a.m. Monday. She had been dead about three hours. She told a neighbor Sunday evening that she was not feeling well. A resident of Wingate for 65 years, Mrs. Johnson was the widow of J. Walter Johnson who died in 1935. They were married in 1903. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Pleasant Hill United church of christ and Wingate Chapter 336, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are a son, Bernard of Chicago, and four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Meharry of New Richmond, Mrs. Imogene Gardner of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Mary Kelly of Indianapolis and Mrs. Martha Miller of Waynetown.
